14 MAR. 2022 · Oklahoma native Camille Herron spends her life breaking records in Ultra-distance running so it may not have come as a surprise to her followers when she recently broke her own women’s world record in the Jackpot 100/US Championship in Las Vegas. That she won in 12 hours, 41 minutes and 11 seconds, averaging around 7:37 minutes per mile was impressive enough but this was only the second time a woman had won (Ann Trason was the first to do it, winning the 1989 US 24Hr Championship) but Camille completed in 2022 almost a minute and a half faster than her previous record in 2017. Camille is the first and only athlete to win all three of the International Association of Ultrarunners' 50K, 100K, and 24 Hour World Championships. She says winning the 2017 Comrades Marathon was the highlight of her career of which she is most proud. She is the first and only woman to run under 13 hours for 100 miles, exceed 150 km for 12-Hours, and to reach 270km for 24Hrs. And there are a string of other records to her name. From surviving the 1999 Oklahoma tornado when her family lost their home to overcoming multiple injuries, her cheerful and positive outlook has carried her through. We can expect many more records as she fine tunes her preparation and lifestyle in pursuit of her goals laying down the challenge for future generations of women in the sport.

7 FEB. 2022 · Our guest is Canadian Judoka Jessica Klimkait. Jess grew up in Whitby, Ontario and followed in her brother Justin’s footsteps when she began to learn Judo at the age of four at the Ajax Budokan Judo Club, in nearby Ajax. Her former coach of 13 years was the club’s chief instructor Kevin Doherty; a two-time Olympian. At the age of 19 Jess moved to the Canadian Team Training Center in Montreal. She has been on Team Canada since 2014 where she competed in the 2015 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China finishing fifth in the 63kg division. In the same year, Jess competed in her first IJF World Tour event at the Zagreb Grand Prix before taking part at her first two IJF Junior World Championships. She established herself in the senior ranks in 2017 by winning gold at the Pan American Championships before earning her first Grand Slam podium when claiming bronze in Ekaterinburg. Jess became the second Canadian to win a world title in judo at the 2021 IJF World Championships in Budapest. In her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, Jess won the bronze medal in the 57kg category, becoming the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic medal in judo. She is passionate about encouraging girls to take up combat sports, which she has found develops confidence and a body positive attitude. Jess also explains ways to reduce the drop-out rates of teenage girls in sport.

19 NOV. 2021 · Basketball fans will immediately recognize the skills of Team GB Olympian Temi Fagbenle, and those who have yet to know her will soon discover that she is a multi-faceted and multi-talented woman. Her relentless drive to win on the court is only matched by her ambitions on the cat walk, in the board room and on a set. It soon becomes apparent that she is not content with just her sporting achievements. Her other passions also fuel her drive, which aligns with her desire to inspire young girls and women, to encourage them to create their own pathway to realize their own dreams. Temi’s story is by no measure ordinary—that’s not her style—she has always been a high achiever from NBA to Olympian, USC to Harvard. One of 12 children born to Nigerian parents in Baltimore, Maryland, Temi was raised to believe in herself, to be a confident woman. She was always told she was beautiful and she exudes that inner strength which she hopes will encourage girls and women to feel body positive. She is, in short, a role model for all girls and women in sport, and in life, an example of how women can orchestrate their own inspirational journey… and it’s easy to be inspired by Temi. With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games her main focus, Temi is determined to complete some unfinished business. Team GB missed out on qualifying for the Rio and Tokyo Games, which is still an open wound. And while Olympic qualifications have just begun, she is also jetting back and forth to play for her league team at Çukurova Basketbol in Turkey. All this while running a fledgling business, along with her other off-court pursuits as a model, actress and UN women partner. This was a conversation I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

24 SEP. 2021 · Our featured athlete is newly crowned U.S. Open Women’s Bowling Champion Josie Barnes from Nashville, Tennessee. Josie claimed the biggest prize in the sport in California taking home a check for $100,000 and it was a result that she is most proud of in her career having overcome some personal setbacks in the past few years. Bowling is something that has always been a part of her life since her parents bought a bowling center when she was a toddler. Having success as a youth player led her to take up a scholarship at Vanderbilt where she would later become the Associate Head Women’s Bowling Coach. She has been a U.S. Team member starting as a junior in 2005 and then as a senior since 2012 with only one year out of the team. Her 2021 season has concluded with her U.S. Open Title but she has more goals in 2022 including making the U.S. team again and winning the other big prize in the sport at the U.S. Bowling Congress Queens.

26 AGO. 2021 · While Team GB Paralympic cyclist Dame Sarah Storey is breaking yet more records in Tokyo by winning her 15th gold medal, we revisit an interview from last year on the Mum’s the Word podcast. Sarah is Great Britain's most decorated female Paralympian with 14 Paralympic gold medals (and counting!). Sarah spoke about her experience competing at the top in track and road cycling whilst starting a family with her husband Barney. Training through both pregnancies and having c-sections for both births, Sarah built a team of support around her that helped her get back in the saddle, winning a world titles just months after giving birth. The women discussed breastfeeding and how Sarah made it work through training and competition by training around both her children’s schedule and picking her moments to get out on her bike so that she could still be there when her kids needed their mum. Sarah gave insightful and empowering advice for all mothers, not just the athletes.

4 DIC. 2020 · Three-time Olympic bobsledder Kaillie Humphries is the only woman to win back to back Olympic gold medals as well as being a three-time World Champion. Having just completed the US National Trials, she is in the process of making the cut to compete in next year’s World Championships and the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. If you follow the sport you will know that prior to the 2018-19 season, Kaillie took the brave step to speak out about the harassment she faced from the governing body of professional Canadian bobsledding. She filed a lawsuit to be released from Canada’s national team in September, 2019 and joined Team USA. Like many female athletes in recent years, Kaillie risked her career to stand up publicly against a sports’ governing body. As one of Canada’s most decorated athletes of all-time, she made the difficult personal and professional choice to leave her home country. Kaillie is an example of how women should stand up to any form of abuse or harassment and remain resolute at defining their own journey.

16 JUL. 2020 · Sarah Newberry-Moore grew up with a strong tradition of sailing in her family. However, it wasn’t until she joined her middle school sailing team at age 12, that she caught the bug for competition. At that point, she was the only girl on her team, and she was determined to beat all of the boys. After putting in long hours filled with hard work, Newberry had done what she set out to do and was ready to push her limits even further. In seeking out more competition, she was attracted to multihulls for their speed and physically demanding nature. By 2006, she had already won the U.S. Youth Multihull Championships. Within a few more short years, she was the top-ranked female multihull skipper in the United States. During the 2016 quadrennium, Newberry set her sights on success in the Nacra 17 class. She made it to the top of the fleet multiple times, but unfortunately missed out on selection to the Olympic Games. Despite falling short of her goal, Newberry pivoted her sights towards training for 2020 and served as a training partner for the Team USA boat. Since then, she has partnered with David Liebenberg. The two have shown their ability to make it to the top of the fleet and are worthy candidates for selection to the 2020 Games.

2 JUN. 2020 · Italian born Stefy Bau was one of the fastest women motocross racers in the world before she retired in 2005. Her bio includes a list of being the first woman to achieve a number of accolades in the sport. Stefy won three world championships, holds two WMX (USA) championships, and a title from the prestigious AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s. In addition, she has won seven Italian Championships. She earned an AMA Pro Racing license and signed up for several Lucas Oil Pro Motocross and Monster Energy Supercross events, and has also raced the FIM Motocross World Championship events against the men. During her career, Stefy wasn’t afraid to take chances or to challenge herself against the top racers in the world. Alas a devastating injury to both ankles in 2005, abruptly ended her racing career. Always looking for a new challenge she then became the General Manager of the newly established FIM International Motorcycle Federation’s Women's World Motocross Championship and has also served as CEO of the Italian motorcycle manufacturing company Fantic Bikes USA. Stefy is a co-founder of Init ESports which produces online competitions and real life tournaments, maximizing the esports audience reach across multiple sports and platforms. Init Esports is owned and operated by three women.

24 ABR. 2020 · As we continue to observe social distancing athletes are having a tough time maintaining much of their training routine while events are cancelled and there is no timeframe to restart competitions for most of them. We’ve been finding out from some of our WiSP Ambassadors how they are adjusting their fitness routines or improvising training. Irish Motor Racing Driver Nicole Drought has been switching her fast wheels for slower ones as a way of maintaining some fitness and is using a simulator to learn a new car that she is yet to drive this season.

Instead she is adapting her training routine in her apartment in Calgary and like so many athletes especially those in an outdoor sport it’s especially challenging. Chris Stafford caught up with Haley this week to hear how she is making that adjustment to daily life.
