New Episodes: yearly, as the semester unfolds
Welcome to Conversations in Visual Studies, a student-led podcast exploring key themes in visual studies through the lens of personal experience, artistic practice, and Indigenous knowledge. Each episode brings together a new group of students to discuss critical questions on the role of visual art in society, connecting their responses to lived experiences, artists from history and today, and their own creative work. From exploring the ways art can serve as a tool for social change to examining how personal identity influences artmaking, our episodes provide thoughtful and engaging discussions that are both accessible and deeply reflective. The podcast is produced as part of the SOCA 201 - Introduction to Visual Studies course, designed to connect theory with creative practice. Episodes are recorded in various settings, reflecting students' relationship with space and land, bringing you discussions rooted in their lived environments.
Territory Acknowledgment:
We acknowledge that the University of the Fraser Valley is located on the unceded traditional territory of the Stó:lō people. The Stó:lō and other Coast Salish peoples have cared for this land for thousands of years. We honour their enduring relationship with the land and commit to working toward reconciliation through education and awareness. This podcast amplifies Indigenous knowledge, ways of knowing, and resilience, fostering meaningful conversations that reflect the complexities of art and land.
