1 FEB. 2024 · For decades male Jehovah’s Witnesses were hauled into the back room, counselled, ridiculed, and denied privileges within the congregations and the organization simply because of a bit of stubble, a goatee, or growing a full beard. It is rare to see one of Jehovah’s Witnesses sporting a beard, and it is almost unheard of in English-speaking countries for a bearded brother to hold a position of responsibility.

And in our local communities, we see the muslims, hindus, and various church organizations involved in charitable work without prejudice. Many of us who were once part of the Jehovah's Witness community know the extent of the organization's involvement in charitable activities. Do they engage in benevolent work, or is their focus primarily on other priorities?

We have witnessed how money plays a significant role in trying to control the narrative. We have seen people suffer consequences for speaking out against atrocities and for standing with victims and the oppressed. And the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses are masters of propaganda and trying to cover up the truth.

Women in particular suffer from psychological stresses in high-control groups where patriarchal attitudes limit their personal power and freedom. They are just less susceptible to mind control techniques. Some maintain that sense of self to make an informed decision to leave. There are many ex-cultists who say they spent years working up the nerve to get out. It really does take a tremendous amount of courage to leave. This episode explores the different ways in which members leave and the consequences that former members have to contend with.
