14 MAY. 2025 · I was working away this morning trying to write this podcast English lesson. And it was hard to concentrate because my dog, Max was barking away while looking out the window. Meanwhile, my other dog Rosie was sleeping away, snoring on the sofa. You see, working from home is not as easy as it sounds.

2 MAY. 2025 · When I checked out of the hotel, I decided to check out the used bookshop across the street. It has a good reputation, and for sure, it checks out. And I could be wrong, but for some reason it seemed like the security guard there was checking me out.
Today we’re going to talk about a really common phrasal verb that shows up in tons of different situations - “check out.” I’m sure you’ve heard and even used check out before, but at the same time I can imagine you haven’t yet used check out in these various ways. And believe it or not, there are at least 7 different ways we use “check out” in English.

28 ABR. 2025 · Thirteen years ago, Hurricane Sandy blew into New York, and caused tons of problems for a lot of people, especially my friend Harry, who lived on the 50th floor in a sixty story condo in midtown. Since the power went out, he had to walk down 50 flights of stairs just to leave the building. Luckily, there was a deli on the first floor there. But he still had to walk up the same 50 flights to get back home.

And at the store, they were giving away a free notebook with every pen you buy. Nice, right? I won’t give away the name of the shop though, because if they get too many customers, they may give up that promotion!
