For over four decades, we have dedicated our lives to helping people navigate the complexities of their emotional, psychological, and social worlds. Our journey began with a shared passion for understanding human behaviour and fostering positive change. Through countless sessions of therapy, coaching, and consulting, we have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of learning to be more self-aware, and understanding how to be more flexible, adaptable, and resilient. In today's society, traditional notions of masculinity are being challenged and redefined. This book emerges as a beacon of insight and guidance, offering a framework for understanding and cultivating a new kind of masculinity—one that is authentic, empathetic, and accountable. Our journey in writing "Making Good Men Great" has been driven by a profound belief that men have the potential to be compassionate, courageous, and connected. This book is not merely a theoretical exploration; it is a practical blueprint for personal growth and societal transformation. Through thought-provoking insights and actionable advice, we aim to empower men to transcend outdated stereotypes and embrace a more inclusive and holistic vision of manhood. We use the metaphor of surfing as central to our narrative. Just as surfers attune themselves to the rhythms of the ocean, men must learn to navigate the ever-changing currents of gender dynamics with grace and adaptability. Masculinity, like the ocean, is vast, dynamic, and ever-shifting. Our hope is to guide men in riding these waves with skill and integrity. "Making Good Men Great" addresses the core issues that impact both women and men: patriarchy and its pervasive influence. We explore how patriarchal values—territoriality, hierarchy, acquisition, competition, and combativeness—shape and often distort the male experience. By redefining these values, we can foster a masculinity that is more inclusive, compassionate, and supportive. In this edition, we emphasise four core goals to enhance men's lives: - Understand the difference between unhealthy masculinity and being healthy - Being the best man you can be in a relationship with yourself. - Being a great man in your relationships with others. - Being a great leader in the company of men. These goals are essential for men seeking to navigate the complexities of modern life. We delve into the psychological and social challenges men face today, from mental health struggles to evolving gender roles. By integrating knowledge from various disciplines such as psychology, anthropology, and history, we provide a comprehensive understanding of what it means to be a man in today's world. "Making Good Men Great" is more than just a book; it's a call to action. It encourages men to embark on a journey of self-discovery and collective transformation, fostering a world where men are celebrated for their compassion, integrity, and dedication to positive change. As we stand at a cultural crossroads, "Making Good Men Great" offers a guiding light for men aspiring to contribute to a more equitable and compassionate society. As you listen to today's episode, we invite you to reflect on the legacy you want to leave behind. Think about how you can become not just a good man but a great one. Join us on this journey from good to great, and let's ride the waves of a new masculinity towards a future brimming with hope, unity, and profound transformation. Your discount code “gunter" will be automatically applied. This week on Inspire Change and after a fabulous conversation on storytelling with our guest Karen Sander. Gunter is going to dive a little deeper into the power literature in storytelling and how it affects us as a society and the world around us: "The Power of Storytelling Navigating Change with Mountains of the Sea," Mountains of the Sea is Gunters  historical novel., It is getting a new look and publishing deal soon through Bonfire Cinema. It has been praised by The New York Times  as - "Visually enticing, with a very masculine, but fractured lead character trying to find his way.…keeps you engaged all the way to the last page.” About Mountains of the Sea - After accidentally shooting an army recruiter, Walter Beaumont is forced to flee England and finds himself on the HMS Resolution, Captain James Cook's ship of exploration to the South Seas. On board he befriends Omai, a Tahitian navigator who takes Walter under his wing. A fish out of water, Walter Beaumont struggles with the Spartan conditions of seafaring, eventually falling ill with consumption. James Cook, knowing that Walter would never survive the rigors of the Northern Pacific and the Bearing Straights, is forced to leave the young man and Omai behind in the newly discovered Hawaiian Islands. Recovering his health, his hopes of returning to England are shattered by the news that Captain Cook has been killed and the Resolution has returned to England without him. Determined to make the most of his fate and intrigued by the Hawaiian culture and their close relationship with the ocean, Walter tries to adapt as best as he can. In a rite of passage that sees him transverse the globe and face the uncertainties of being a stranger in a strange land, Walter Beaumont well and truly rises to the challenge. It is quite literally a watershed of epic proportions, where faces the many moods of an ocean culture that is the center of the Hawaiian world. Together with his Tahitian friend, Omai, his teacher Kanoa, and his newly found love, Lani, he comes face to face with political intrigue, war, and the most enigmatic experience for an English aristocrat, that of riding the giant swells of Hawai'i. We all have a story. Stories that touch us the most are about that moment when we make the choice to be real, to drop any pretense of pride, power and position. In that telling moment we step into a new space where our ability to overcome fear allows us to be truly authentic in our relationship to the world. In that moment we become fully human. Gunter has authored a novel Mountains of Sea published by Winterwolf Press and he self-published the non-fiction, Making Good Men Great: Surfing the New Wave of Masculinity.
