Stay up to date with the latest Orland City SC news as Doc and his group of experts talk about the Lions and other soccer news from around the world.
7 ENE. 2020 · Happy New Year! The home opener is less than eight weeks away! In honor of that, we kick off the show by re-living the final two minutes of the last time Orlando City opened the season hosting Real Salt Lake.
In our first show back from our holiday hiatus we have to make due without our “Soccer Sherpa”, Simon Veness. Fortunately, there are plenty of off-season stories for Orlando City for Doc to discuss with Lord Commander of the UCF Knight’s Watch, Charles. They also take some time to continue to stump for City to select UCF’s Cal Jennings in the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday.
On paper, the Lions look like they have improved on defense and in the midfield, but we are left to wonder what is happening on the attack, as the only promising rumor on that front has been German Cano, who chose to play in Brazil. Plus, is Rowe good enough to lead a playoff team between the pipes?
Plus, we get a delicious bonus story with news that Justin Meram’s contract has not been picked up by Atlanta United. He took a veiled shot at Orlando in his good-bye Tweet, which was a great reminder of why he became so hated here. He will not be missed.
17 DIC. 2019 · We are preempted by the Orlando Magic the next two weeks, so this will be our final show until 2020. Since it is our last show before the calendar rolls over to a new round number, we are contractually obligated to list our favorite moments of the past ten years. Lord Commander of the UCF Knights' Watch, Charles, and our "Soccer Sherpa", Simon Veness, break down the biggest moments for Orlando City Soccer as well as soccer on the world stage.
Will your favorite moment make the list?
3 DIC. 2019 · We are back after a week’s hiatus and there is more to talk about than we could get to in an hour, but we give it our best shot. First, Lord Commander of the UCF Knights’ Watch, Charles, joins Doc to talk about the UCF Men’s Soccer heartbreak 18 seconds into overtime, as well as how Orlando City should draft their star, Cal Jennings. They also unveil their latest episode of “Learn the Chants” with one of their favorites: “Low Rider”.
We are thrilled to welcome back our “Soccer Sherpa”, Simon Veness, to the program. He gives his unique insight into the Ballon D’Or winners, Lionel Messi and Megan Rapinoe, as well as Orlando City Soccer’s off-season so far. Doc also picks his brain about the new Star Wars ride at Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge, which Simon will be lucky enough to experience before the public!
19 NOV. 2019 · This week we welcomed back our “Soccer Sherpa”, Simon Veness! We discuss his belief that given how much the NFL sucks right now, the landscape is ripe for soccer to make some headway into the hearts and minds of the American sports fan. We also heard his thoughts on the Chelsea/Man City match this weekend, and reviewed the players Orlando City left exposed for the MLS expansion draft (Brian Rowe? Really?!).
We were also joined by Lord Commander of the UCF Knights’ Watch, Charles. In addition to his usual rants on Orlando City, we also had our second installment of our yet-to-be-named segment when we break down an Orlando City Supporter chant. This week: “City, You Are My Best Friend”.
12 NOV. 2019 · This week we bid adios to Christian Higuita. Reports are he is headed back to Columbia and we are going to miss him. We are also going to miss Dom Dwyer, if the rumors are true. There is talk that he might be traded to Minnesota to reunite with Adrian Heath, and we debate whether that is a good thing or bad thing for Orlando City.
Plus, we discuss the new NWSL allocation money rules that freeze out USWNT players and debut a new segment where we give the history, lyrics and proper execution of a Supporters chant each week.
5 NOV. 2019 · This week on Orlando Derby we give some love to the UCF Men’s Soccer program, which has risen to #6 in the rankings. We recap their season and take a look ahead at their post-season chances. We also try very hard to get excited about the news that Orlando City may have found its coach. We are not successful.
We also take a look back at the MLS Playoffs and prepare for the MLS Cup, which will be coming along any time now. Plus, we run down the list of the most valuable franchises in MLS, as well as take a peak at the MLS off-season schedule.
22 OCT. 2019 · This week we welcomed on special guest Austin David of Orlando Soccer Show and the Orlando Seawolves, Orlando’s indoor soccer franchise. He gave us his thoughts on covering Orlando City this season as well as the MLS Playoffs. He works with the Seawolves and was here to answer all our questions about the club.
We also enjoyed the company of our “Soccer Sherpa”, Simon Veness. He gave his unique insight to the Playoffs, La Liga’s plan to play a regulation match in the US and the continued stories of racism and protest that are affecting soccer across the pond.
15 OCT. 2019 · This week was a somber episode for us as we say good-bye to James O’Connor. Doc compares the Orlando City coaching search to a mother burning through step-dads, while Lord Commander of the UCF Knights’ Watch, Charles, finally feels cleansed as we move into another off-season before the playoff start.
The Four Minute Monologue from our “Soccer Sherpa”, Simon Veness, returns this week as he lays out the road map for the Lions heading into 2020. He and Doc also talk a little Premier League and discuss the dark cloud of racism hanging over soccer across the pond.
11 OCT. 2019 · We apologize for being a few days late with this episode, but it is just as well. We needed the time to come to terms with a fourth coaching change in fire years for Orlando City.
Lord Commander of the UCF Knights’ Watch, Charles, had a catharsis live on-air, as Doc tried to remain positive in spite of his disappointment at James O’Conner being unceremoniously drummed out of the corps. Our “Soccer Sherpa”, Simon Veness, remained even-keeled as always and talked the boys off the ledge.
We also welcomed on special guest Stoge Stevens to discuss the in-fighting among Lions fans as the season came to a more disastrous end than even the most pessimistic supporter thought possible.
1 OCT. 2019 · This week was a somber affair on Orlando Derby. Doc and Lord Commander of the UCF Knights’ Watch, Charles, bury the Lions’ 2019 season and then spend the rest of the show debating which players need to be kept and which ones should hire a realtor. Plus, our “Soccer Sherpa”, Simon Veness, replaced his weekly Four Minute Monologue with a Four Minute Eulogy.
