"Qatra Qatra/Drop by Drop. Perspectives from Afghanistan" is a contemporary art exhibition organized by Fondazione Imago Mundi at Gallerie delle Prigioni, in Treviso (Italy), from November 25, 2021, until January 9, 2022.
What does the title of the exhibition mean? "Qatra Qatra Darya Mehsha" is an ancient Afghan saying which means "Drop by drop becomes a river": it emphasizes the importance, drop by drop, of giving shape to a river of hope and determination. The exhibition, curated by Aman Mojadidi, gathers works made by 4 women artists of Afghan origin (Kubra Khademi, Hangama Amiri, Rada Akbar, and Lida Abdul) and 1 male Mexican artist (Mario Garcia Torres).
They narrate today's Afghanistan between war and hope, between peace and uncertainty, denouncing and deconstructing the patriarchal culture.

29 DIC. 2021 · Curator Aman Mojadidi tells us about the concept of the exhibition “Qatra Qatra / Drop by Drop. Perspectives from Afghanistan”, conceived after the takeover of power by the Taliban in Afghanistan. The exhibition displays the works of 4 contemporary women artists of Afghan origin (Kubra Khademi, Hangama Amiri, Rada Akbar, and Lida Abdul) who left the country due to the limitations of freedom towards women, and also the work of a Latin American male artist (Mario Garcia Torres). The rich creative culture, that has always characterized Afghanistan, can be a way to fight against patriarchy. Contemporary art can be also an opportunity for the reappropriation of their own body and freedom, and a chance for rebirth for Afghanistan, drop by drop. -

Perspectives from Afgh4nistan» organized by Fondazione Imago Mundi at Gallerie delle Prigioni in Treviso, until January 9, 2022. • About the artist • Kubra Khademi (Kabul, 1989) is a visual artist and feminist who explores her life as a refugee and as a woman through her work. She completed her BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) at Beaconhouse National University in Lahore (Pakistan) where she began to create public performances. After returning to Kabul, the nature of her work on sexual harassment and a male-dominated society forced Khademi to leave her home country (in particular due to a performance where she walked the streets of Kabul with an armor that highlighted the body). She currently lives and works in Paris, where, in 2016, she was given the title of Knight of Art and Literature (Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres) by the Ministry of French Culture. -

Hangama Amiri: poetics and artworks
29 DIC. 2021 · The curator Aman Mojadidi explains the poetics and artworks of Hangama Amiri, one of the four women artists of Afghan origin inside the exhibition «Qatra Qatra/Drop by Drop. Perspectives from Afghanistan» organized by Fondazione Imago Mundi at Gallerie delle Prigioni in Treviso, until January 9, 2022. Hangama Amiri (Kabul, 1989) is an Afghan-Canadian painter and mixed-media artist, whose work concentrates on topics such as feminism, geopolitics, and gender. Having left Afghanist4n after the Talib4n takeover in the 1990s (when she was 6 years old), as a refugee, Amiri grew up in Nova Scotia, Canada. She received a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) from NSCAD in Canada and completed her MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in the Painting & Printmaking Department at Yale University in 2020. Amiri exhibits her work internationally including in Canada, Italy, France, the USA, and Bulgaria. She is currently based in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. -

29 DIC. 2021 · The curator Aman Mojadidi explains the poetics and artworks of Rada Akbar, one of the 4 women artists of Afghan origin inside the exhibition «Qatra Qatra/Drop by Drop. Perspectives from Afghanistan» at Gallerie delle Prigioni in Treviso, until January 9, 2022. Rada Akbar (Kabul, 1988) is an activist, curator, and conceptual artist who uses her creative practice as a medium through which she can speak out against misogyny and oppression. Her mixed-media artworks utilize a variety of approaches including wearable monuments, performance, painting, installation, and photography. Akbar’s work has been displayed in numerous exhibitions both in Afghanistan and abroad. In 2015, Akbar won an honorable mention for Photo of the Year with the United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF). -

Perspectives from Afghanistan» at Gallerie delle Prigioni in Treviso, until January 9, 2022. See the video until the end and leave below a comment with any question you have Lida Abdul (Kabul, 1973) is a video and performance artist who addresses themes of devastation, displacement, identity, and the body, including how each interacts with architecture. Her artworks reflect on cultural identities and migrations, the exile and political instability of his country and political resistance. Having left Afghanistan after the Soviet invasion in 1979, Abdul lived in India and Germany before settling in the United States (in Los Angeles). She received Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Political Science and Philosophy before completing a Master of Fine Arts at the University of California in 2000. Her work has been exhibited widely, including the Istanbul Modern, Kunsthalle Vienna, Museum of Modern Art Arnhem, Miami Central, and the 2005 Venice Biennale. -
Mario Garcia Torres: poetics and artworks

Perspectives from Afghanistan» at Gallerie delle Prigioni in Treviso, until January 9, 2022. Mario Garcia Torres (Monclova, Messico, 1975) is a conceptual artist using various media, including film, sound, performance, ‘museographic installations’ and video. Garcia Torres refers to untold or ‘minor’ histories (the stories told live and that do not enter the official news) as departing points for his work, while questioning universal ideas about truth, certainty and time. He has re-created historical exhibitions and even ‘completed’ unfinished artworks, blurring original and reenactment, past and present. In the early 2000s, García Torres stopped dating his works as a way of undermining the narrative that a career, and the works produced within it, is the result of a progressive evolution over time. -
