Quake tells the true stories of the world's great earthquakes and tsunamis and the science of how the Earth moves. Each episode, host Nirob takes one earthquake — a city that fell on a holy day and shook the faith of a continent, a harbour that burned for three days, a wave that crossed an ocean in a night and killed a quarter of a million people, a nuclear power station overwhelmed by the sea — and rebuilds it: the fault beneath the ground and the people who lived on it, the warnings that were or were not read, the shaking as it actually happened second by second, the aftermath of fire and flood and collapse, and the science and the building codes that came out of the ruins.

From Lisbon in 1755 to San Francisco in 1906, from Tokyo in 1923 to Tangshan in 1976, from the Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004 to Haiti, Tōhoku and the earthquakes of our own decade, Quake is about the most sudden and least predictable force in the natural world — and about how human beings learned to build for a ground that will not stay still. Meticulously researched, honest about what the science knows and what it still cannot predict, and clear about the difference between the record and the legend. Clean and suitable for all ages. A new earthquake every week
