  • E23 - DAKAR #4: Collective Translation Practices - A conversation with Rosanna Puyol

    18 JUN. 2024 · During the African Art Book Fair in Dakar we meet Rosanna Puyol. Rosanna is a poet, editor and co-founder of BROOK press who publish French translations of books engaged in feminism and antiracism, texts both poetic and political. Recent Brook publications include French translations of texts by Fred Moten & Stefano Harney, Saidiya Hartman, José Esteban Muñoz, Laura Mulvey, José Esteban Muñoz, Shulamith Firestone, Jill Johnston. Rosanna organizes reading groups as well as writing and translation workshops. In our conversation we focus on the collective translation of The Undercommons, the notion of the book as a social space of conviviality and the joy of "study" as a way to escape neoliberal individualism, the attention deficit economy and the solitude of precarious labor.  Thank you, Rosanna!     17 JUN. 2024 · Dakar. We are at Cheikh Anta Diop University to meet Professor El Hadji Dieye, specialist in African linguistics. With El Hadji we discuss national and indigenous languages in Senegal, as well as the burning question of disappearing idioms and grassroots initiatives to protect them. We also consider the links between words and forms of life, the question of opacity and the power of spirituality as forces of resistance to Western domination. He tells us how they are compiling dictionaries as collective spaces of resilience. Thank you El Hadji!   • E20 - DAKAR #1: KENULAB - A conversation with ALIBETA

    8 JUN. 2024 · KENU: Lab’Oratoire des Imaginaires" (60 minutes, May 2024) In Oukam - Dakar, we meet multidisciplinary artist and musician Alibeta, founder of KENULAB.  KENU (meaning "pillar") is an inspiring collective space whose approach and artistic methods are informed by local community knowledges. As well as hosting residencies, they run another space, ARTISTE DOU DAANU ("Artists don't fall")  that houses production and rehearsal studios, providing an alternative professional hub for actors, researchers, musicians, filmmakers, activists and artists of all kind, as well as being a popular hangout for both locals and travelers. For several years, KENU has developed collaborative initiatives related to the territory and its burgeoning imaginaries. Our conversation touches upon a number of topics, from the challenges posed by decoloniality to strategies of autonomy, fugitivity and refusal, from the importance of a holistic approach to art to building possibilities for the coexistence of different cosmologies and visions in imagining alternative modernities for the futures of the African continent.  Thank you, Alibeta!     12 NOV. 2023 · RADIO PRACTICES AND RADICAL FORMS OF ORGANIZATION with Silvia, Graeme, Nikolas (firefly frequencies), Gregoire (Station of Commons), Juan, Sandro, Andrea (Radio Tropiezo), Matteo (Cashmere Radio) In the context or the Miss Read Pre-fair Program (September 2023) this public discussion involved some members of the Lumbung netwerk and focused on radio practice as a radical form of collective organization. How can audio practices operate together in terms of shared resources, contributions, economics, and overall planning? What are the main aims and ways of doing radio and how does radio situate itself (as a media) within the current neoliberal landscape? Lumbung radio is an inter-local online community radio initiated as a part of documenta fifteen. It’s an open online broadcast that comprises an inter-local network of radio stations spread through many different geographies, comprising over 25 stations from around the globe. It operates in no specific time zones, and streams multiple languages, music, and art. Lumbung operates as a decentralized network of nodes that uses internet without its hegemonic agency. The intention is to produce an audiophonic common space built on the multiplication of the existing practices of its contributors. https://lumbungradio.org

It was created by Studiovuoto in collaboration with the Mediterranean bees and flowers, and contributions of DJ Cris, DJ Turollas, Ilàchime quartet & Fabrizio Elvetico, Valeria Muledda, Christoph Pennig, The Cleopatras, Teckno Nadia, the Amata Rossa. It celebrates communities moving, feeling and making honey together. It invites our bodies to dance with the world, and to care for the self and for the earth.
