  • Mental health journey of an immigrant w/ Anagha

    5 MAY. 2021 · Anagha Sreevals is a Global Affairs student at GMU. She is interested in working with refugees and studying the intersection between gender and peacebuilding. She has been volunteering with a refugee couple since fall of 2019 and is currently planning on doing ESL tutoring and career development training for refugee women this summer. Anagha herself is an immigrant from India born in UAE. She believes her cultural identity and interest in conflict resolution and peacebuilding frames her perspective on refugee mental health.   • Helping Refugees Finding Their Peace w/ Amos

    7 ABR. 2021 · Amos Izerimana is a Burundi-born peacebuilding practitioner. He is committed to capacity building for developing communities and holds interests in human rights, Transitional Justice, and Pan-Africanism. Amos is a graduate of the United Nations-mandated University for Peace, Brandeis University, and Berea College. Amos is the Globalization Program Manager at Louisville Forward, part of Louisville Metro Government where he implements and monitors programs that attract foreign-born internationals to Louisville, build a thriving business environment, and create a community that welcomes and supports their growth. He serves as an ambassador for Youth Building in Synergy to End Poverty, a program manager for the ReTurn Movement, and a legal assistant at Kortz Funke Immigration Law Firm.   • Working to give back with Omar Fehmi

    10 MAR. 2021 · Omar Fehmi is the son of a Syrian mother and a Lebanese father. He is a sophomore at the University of Michigan intending to major in Organizational Studies while on the pre-medical track. Omar founded the Keys for Kids Initiative in high school which has raised over $160,000 to benefit Syrian refugee children. Currently, Omar serves on the University of Michigan UNICEF Club EBoard. Join us at Safe Haven Space, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing mental health and well-being programs for refugee students and families, as we discuss the trials and triumphs of mental health as a refugee, immigrant or/and asylum seeker. We talk about the importance of mental health as a whole and specifically the added challenges those who are navigating a new environments and country have to face and provide tips, tools and tidbits on how to overcome them, both from personal experience and as recommended by menalth health professionals.
