"Safety Matters" is a podcast to do with people who work in the Technical Safety and Human Factors disciplines across all sectors including: Energy, Rail, Defence and Renewables. This first volume is with Neill Renton who is a senior lecturer at Aberdeen Uni and is widely regarded as an authority in the discipline. Neill provides a insight to the discipline and what changes have been made in safety over the years. Throughout all the podcasts I will be talking with some amazing people who can explain what has helped them progress and develop in these key disciplines across all industries.

1 MAR. 2021 · This episode of Safety Matters is with the brilliant Josh Saunders who graduated just over 5 years ago and provides a very interesting insight to how he has developed in technical safety in the nuclear sector and how he has embraced new technology including virtual reality 3D environments. Josh talks about how the digital advancements will help safety engineers/consultants provide effective and safe solutions remotely. He also outlines the importance of working with people who supported him as a graduate and gave him the confidence to be innovative and to have a voice.
28 ENE. 2021 · Safety Matters Volume 5 with the wonderful Rachel Bennett who talks about her experiences in Human Factors. This is a great listen for any aspiring engineers or anyone who wants to learn/understand more about the physiological side of Human Factors.
1 DIC. 2020 · This months podcast is with the brilliant Ben Gilmartin from the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) who talks about the challenges they face and advancements they are making in the rail industry. Ben talks about many interesting subjects and provides a glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes to keep the UK railways safe. This includes updating Victorian equipment and factoring in us/the public. Ben also talks about how being part of the Safety and Reliability Society has helped him broaden his knowledge across a wide range of areas.
I am very keen to hear from anyone who would like to take part in a Safety Matters podcast and also keen to get your feedback on any of the editions released so far. If you have subjects or specific questions you would like me to ask guests in the future please get in touch.
I believe that all the Safety Matters podcasts have important and useful information for everyone, especially for the new generation of engineers and consultants who want to become leaders and experts of the future. 30 SEP. 2020 · It’s the 1st of the month which means volume 2 of Safety Matters is now available on the link below. This episode is with the extremely eloquent Jeni Lewthwaite who has worked across industries including: Defence, Nuclear, Process and Oil and Gas. Jeni provides an extremely interesting insight in to what attracted her to technical safety and some details around the IEC61508 regs. Jeni also talks about what helped her learn and progress which is a “must listen” for any aspiring engineer or graduate regardless of discipline or specialism.
