13 FEB. 2023 · Today’s reading shows Jesus’ commitment to prayer and being led by the Spirit in His ministry as He fulfils the Kingdom’s agenda.
We see that Jesus got up very early in the morning, while it was still dark, in order to spend time in prayer. In the gospels there are over 45 sections of Scripture and 30 instances in which Jesus modelled and taught a prayerful life.
Prayer was more than an event or action to Jesus. It was a lifestyle of connecting with the Father; Jesus lived a life that was PRAYERFULLY DEPENDENT.

In today’s reading we note that Jesus leaves Judea to return to Galilee. The route Jesus chose to take was via Samaria. Some translations of John 4:4 (NKJV) say that Jesus “needed to go through Samaria”.

In this passage, we see how the first disciples come to follow Jesus. It is important for us to note that these early disciples were not the ‘spiritual giants’ we read about in the book of Acts; they were just ordinary men seeking God.
