11 ABR. 2025 · The first sermon in a series on the Gospel of John.
John wrote his gospel so that people would know and believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
John 20:30-31 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
He begins his writing by stating that Jesus is the Word of God, that He was with God in the beginning, and that He is, and always has been, God.
John 1:1–5 (ESV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
30 MAR. 2025 · Trying to make and grow disciples can be difficult and disappointing. It can result in rejection and persecution. Why would we go through all the trouble of making disciples and teaching disciples if it can be so hurtful? For one thing, we’re called and commanded to do it. Secondly, Jesus did it. Thirdly, people’s souls are at stake. Beyone these reasons, we seek to lead people to Christ and help them become more like Him because there is great joy in it. Jesus promises us great rewards in following Him and making disciples. One of the main ones is joy!
23 MAR. 2025 · What is the goal of discipeship: to build up the body of Christ and equip the next generation of Christians for service in God's kingdom.
What are the means of achieving the goal: the leaders, gifts, and graces that Jesus has given to the church.
16 MAR. 2025 · Discipleship is the means that God has chosen to grow His kingdom and His kingdom citizens. We are calling people to become disciples of Jesus; calling them out of darkness into light; out of the domain of darkness into the kingdom of Jesus. It’s important because people matter to God. It’s important because the need is great. It’s important because the workers are few.
Matthew 9:35–38 (ESV) And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
7 MAR. 2025 · Loving our neighbor has become controversial. Not because people disagree about Jesus saying it and believing that Christians ought to do it, but what it means to really love your neighbor. Some say it means accepting and affirming them no matter what they say or do, even if it violates God's commandments. Christians are confused about what is the right way to love their neighbor. We'll look at Ephesians 5 and see that our love should imitate God's love. Understanding how God loves us will help give us clarity on how to really love our neighbor.
