Latvians too were excited for heroes and villains. To cheer for and shower with roses the former while booing and mercilessly stoning the latter. Because 100 years ago Latvians lived their own legendary age of gladiators. This was the time when instead of ice hockey or basketball Latvians were dying to see professional wrestling.

It no longer has the element of surprise… in a form of an ambush in the darkness. Yes, you read it correctly. This time of the year was when Latvians used to attack each other in the street for fun. This peculiar summer solstice habit that has now disappeared from the memory was once known as the legendary Battle of Sweet Flags.
