Scleroderma is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the skin to thicken and harden. The name comes from the Greek words for "hard skin". Scleroderma can affect the skin, blood vessels, muscles, bones, and other internal organs. Scleroderma affects around 250 out of every 1 million people in the U.S. Women are four times more likely to develop scleroderma than men. It can affect people of any age, but systemic scleroderma is most commonly diagnosed in people between ages 20 and 50.

7 OCT. 2024 · The AIDS Walk LA 2024, powered by APLA Health, is coming up, Sunday Oct. 13th! An annual fundraising event dedicated to supporting HIV/AIDS research, prevention, and support services. One of the largest (and first) AIDS fundraising events in the country, it draws thousands of participants and raises millions of dollars to combat and assist those affected by HIV/AIDS. This year marks the 40th anniversary of AIDS Walk LA, celebrating four decades of unwavering commitment to combating HIV/AIDS. Over the past 40 years, APLA Health has worked to bring attention to crises, eliminate stigmas, and make healthcare equity a priority in Los Angeles County.
APLA Health serves more than 18,000 patients and clients annually, focusing on serving the low-income LGBTQ+ community and people living with HIV. They continue to be the leading provider of HIV prevention and health education services in Los Angeles County targeting populations at highest risk of HIV, including gay men of color, young gay men, and members of the transgender community. Over the past 40 years, medical advancements have transformed HIV from a fatal disease into a manageable chronic condition, allowing individuals with HIV to live longer, healthier lives. In recent years, there have been groundbreaking advancements in HIV prevention and treatment, including the availability of PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis), and innovative options like injectable PrEP. 1 OCT. 2024 · Aired September 29, 2024: Susan G. Komen®, the world’s leading breast cancer organization, is hosting their MORE THAN PINK Walk, Saturday, October 5 at Exposition Park. It'll be all about bringing together survivors, supporters and advocates to raise critical funds to advance Komen’s mission and provide support for people facing this disease now.
In 2024 alone, an estimated 32,660 women in California will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 4,570 will lose their lives to the disease. Funds raised at the walk will allow Komen to meet the immediate needs of breast cancer patients through its free Breast Care Helpline and offer services such as patient navigation, financial assistance and emotional support. It will also fund research breakthroughs that allow more lives to be saved from breast cancer and bring us closer to the cures for all breast cancers.
In this podcast, Lisa Foxx talks to 2-time breast cancer survivor Annette Crump about her experience from diagnosis to being cancer free. She also discusses why its so important for women to do home exams in addition to annual mammograms starting at age 40. She also hopes people will join her team 'Annette & Friends' and help them raise money to help other breast cancer patients.

10 SEP. 2024 · Four years ago this September, Eric Borstein almost died due to severe right heart failure. He spent 16 days in the ICU where he was diagnosed with a very rare lung disease called Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, a disease with no cure. At the time the outlook was dire, as they told his wife he probably had 3-6 months to live. Needless to say, four years later he is ALIVE and much better thanks to walking! Eric learned very early on that walking helped mitigate the terrible side effects associated with medications. A few short steps in the hospital led to a walk around the block at home, which led to a mile, two, three. In the calendar years 2022 he walked 4,700 miles, and in 2023 he walked a little over 5,000 miles. Now he's hoping you will walk with him, to raise money and awareness for PAH patients.
September 22nd, Eric will be walking from Los Angeles to San Diego to raise awareness for this rare disease. Before he heads out on this 6-day journey down the coast, he and his family are putting on the first annual Where is EB? fundraiser and 5K in Santa Monica, that will benefit Team PHenomenal Hope. California Law requires that all drivers of vehicles within the State maintain evidence of financial responsibility. California's Low Cost Automobile Program (CLCA) was established by the Legislature in 1999 and exists pursuant to California Insurance Code Section 11629.7 as a program designed to provide income eligible persons with liability insurance protection at affordable rates as a way to meet California's financial responsibility laws.

21 AGO. 2024 · Founded in 2009, the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (ICYOLA), is a nonprofit that transforms the lives and minds of young people in Inner City LA through high quality music education. They teach young people about the great music of the world and provide opportunities for them to perform that music in the most magnificent settings of our community. They prepare their members for advanced study and high caliber success in music and otherwise and do it through many programs they offer and ALL AT NO COST. They instill the ancillary benefits that music instruction provides: problem-solving skills, critical thinking, self-reliance, self-confidence, self-discipline, and the crystallization and pursuit of meaningful purpose. The ICYOLA is also the largest majority Black orchestra in America. They have are building a new, larger facility to offer their programs to evan more students.
