14 ABR. 2021 · Jo Berry is a peace activist and founder of Building Bridges for peace. I met Jo through the Professional Speaking Association and we are now members of the same mastermind group where we are supporting each other in managing our speaking businesses in this new post-covid world.
Jo's passion is for world peace, a passion inspired by the tragic circumstances of the 1984 IRA bombing of the Grand Hotel in Brighton where her father was one of the 5 people who died that night. Jo made a decision to transform her pain into a passion for peace.
Today I want to explore how Jo is using that passion to build a speaking career.
You can find Jo's 2013 TEDx talk here https://youtu.be/coljnvVH18o and her web site here https://jo-berry.com

11 MAR. 2021 · My guest today is Iain Clague, someone I have got to know because of lockdown. Iain is a chef and works with care homes to help improve nutrition and reduce food waste. That is a very narrow niche as a speaker, but shows how it is possible to build a speaking business by focusing on a tight niche.
Iain is also developing products through collaboration with other speakers, another important area for all speakers to consider. Iain is also the founder of the Care Quality Network, an initiative inspired by the support he has received from the PSA and aiming to bring the same ethos to providers of services to care homes throughout the UK.
Today I am going to talk to Iain about his business and his journey into professional speaking.

9 MAR. 2021 · My guest on the show today is Matt Kendall who is an IEMT therapist and speaker. I know - "What is IEMT?" That was my question as well, and having had a chat to Matt, who started as a hypnotherapist, I have discovered that IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy) is an extraordinarily quick way to remove memories that are blocking our progress.
Matt is both a practitioner and a trainer of therapists in this therapy and also speaks about the topic extensively. So join me for an interesting talk. Matt also ran a project in London called Interesting Talks and we are going to find out more about this and other speaker related work he is involved in.

8 MAR. 2021 · I am setting up some interviews with speakers over the next week to talk about their stories of becoming outstanding speakers speaker. We all have difference stories, and experiences, and I hope that hearing those stories will be an inspiration to you on your path to delivering outstanding speeches.
So in this episode I am going to start by telling some of my stories and in doing so help to differentiate between different speaking. I have delivered keynote speeches, training sessions, product launches, management presentations, budget pitches, board presentations, and product demonstrations. I have spoken in conference centres, shopping precincts, open-air stages, theatres, chapels, school halls, village halls, various training and board rooms and a range of online environments.
Each speech brings with it its own set of challenges and opportunities, and I am going to explore mine and other speakers' experiences to highlight various styles of speaking, biginning with a focus on Training and Keynote speeches.

7 MAR. 2021 · If it were just about the content, then just writing out a speech and sending it to you would be the most economic way of communicating information to you. Or perhaps making a video and sending it to you would work. But we still prefer to attend meetings or join live events like this one or on Zoom. Why?
Well, the primary benefit of attending an event is engagement. Engagement with the Presenter; engagement with other participants; engagement with friends; engagement with work teams.
So in this episode I am going to talk about audience engagement both at live events and online events.
Engagement makes any learning process more enjoyable, and the content more memorable. But engagement does not just mean breaking out into groups or pairs, and especially does not mean engaging in embarrassing games and exercises. The aim is to physically involve the audience in the presentation and you will see, there are a variety of ways to do that.

11 FEB. 2021 · I have been broadcasting this show since January 1st using StreamYard. When I stated live streaming in 2017 I was using Be.Live. Of course the past year has seen a huge explosion in remote speaking with Zoom leading the way. When will we see a return to face to face meetings? That is not clear, and more and more organisations are beginning to see the real benefits of remote speaking, so I think that we will never return to the meetings industry as it was before 2020.
What that means is that we are all going to need to add remote speaking to our skill set, no matter what your job is. In the future a significant proportion of all meetings will be online and therefore you will need to come across professionally as a participant, as a host, or as a speaker.
So tonight I am going to start talking about speaking online - I say start, because this is going to be a ongoing process. I am watching videos experimenting with virtual tools almost daily at the moment and I know I still have so much to learn. One of my favourite inspirational writers is Richard Bach's who says, You teach best what you most need to Learn".

9 FEB. 2021 · When I joined the US National Speakers Association in 1995 I was introduced to the eight competencies all professional speakers were expected to study and learn. The competency I was most fascinated by was Platform Mechanics. Not a term I had every heard before, it encompasses everything to do with delivering a speech, except the speech itself.
No matter whether you are speaking online or offline, this the skills of platform mechanics are essential. So today I am going to start exploring this topic. I say start because I think I am tending to let theses shows get a little too long, but also because it is a big topic embracing everything that happens on the platform. all the audio visuals, slides, microphones, staging, seating etc.
The essence of platform mechanics is simple. The audience should be blissfully unaware of it all. You want your audience to listen to, and be totally absorbed by, the speech you are delivering. If they are distracted by something, that means that your platform mechanics are not working properly
