22 AGO. 2020 · This is the fifth episode of The Ship Pod. I was lucky enough to be joined by Tom, who writes a blog called Steam at Sea ( https://steamatsea.wordpress.com ) that is well worth a look. We are going to talk about the French Line’s ss Paris. Neither of us know a great deal about her but we felt that she is often forgotten in liner history and that this would be a nice opportunity to remember her. The ss Paris was known for her interiors and was a prime of example of Art Nouveau, something of a precursor to Art Deco that would be established in the following decade after Paris’s construction. Because of this, the Paris is a visual bridge between two eras. She had left behind the Titanic, Lusitania Edwardian style that many people are today aware of and ventured into a new stylistic era that by the late 1920s would be what we recognize as Art Deco today.
A big thank you to Yumione Skybedz for the concept behind the thumbnail, he has an Instagram that is also very interesting ( https://instagram.com/orange.men.line.ocean.liners?igshid=11is5m5jn6o3r ).
8 AGO. 2020 · For this episode I had the pleasure of Jamie’s company for a nice chat about the White Star Liner’s 2nd Britannic. Jamie is another young person who has a passion for all things ocean liner. He runs two Instagram accounts, 1. @italian_shipping_lines and 2. @old_shipping_lines, that are very much worth a visit.
Here we cover some details of Britannic’s short service life. We do make some claims in this podcast, but please be aware that we are not experts and rely on secondary sources such as books for our knowledge so we accept that not every we say is consensus or factual. We understand there are strong opinions surrounding the Titanic and anything she’s related to (such as the Britannic), however, this is not an attempt to aggravate that further.
24 JUL. 2020 · This is based on the remarkable true story of the German liner Cap Trafalgar meeting the British RMS Carmaina during WWI. Only thing is, both are armed merchant cruisers and the Tap Trafalgar is disguised as the RMS Carmaina. This podcast is a long story told short.
16 JUL. 2020 · This is a reactionary and un-planned second episode of The Ship Pod. This is because of the breaking news that Holland America Line will say goodbye to 4 of their older and smaller ships (Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Veendam and Maasdam). In this episode I briefly cover these ships and what is going on.
15 JUL. 2020 · This is a basic overview of the life of the Rotterdamsche Lloyd liner ms Willem Ruys. She was the last Dutch colonial liner and was brought into the world during a period of great change.
10 JUL. 2020 · Test episode.
