8 AGO. 2026 · On October thirteenth, two thousand ten, the Fénix capsule began carrying the trapped miners of the San José Mine back to the surface one by one. Each ascent took a single man through roughly two thousand three hundred feet of rock while families, rescuers, and cameras waited above.
The operation continued for more than twenty hours. Early on October fourteenth, shift supervisor Luis Urzúa became the thirty third and final miner to leave the mine. All thirty three men had survived sixty nine days underground.
Their survival depended on rationing, organization, drilling technology, medical support, engineering, communication, and the fact that rescuers reached them before their underground conditions became irreversible.

Engineers tested the specially designed Fénix capsule, while doctors and rescue teams prepared for the physical strain of bringing each miner roughly two thousand three hundred feet to the surface through a narrow shaft. The order of extraction was planned carefully, with stronger miners among the first and medically vulnerable men prioritized when needed.
On October thirteenth, the rescue began. For each miner, the final journey would be made alone inside a metal capsule barely wider than his body.
