Story Transcript:

De: "Sonntag, den 12. September", sagte Sophia und blickte auf den kleinen Kalender in ihrer Küche. Sie zeigte auf das Datum mit ihrem Finger. "Das ist das Familientreffen". Sie wohnte in Berlin, der großen Stadt mit bunten Häusern, langen Straßen und viel Lärm. Aber Sophia liebte ihren ruhigen Stadtteil.
En: "Sunday, the 12th of September," Sophia said, looking at the small calendar in her kitchen. She pointed to the date with her finger. "That's the family gathering." She lived in Berlin, the big city with colorful houses, long streets, and a lot of noise. But Sophia loved her quiet neighborhood.

De: Sophia rief ihre Kinder an. "Anna, Lars, wir haben ein Familientreffen!" Anna war Ärztin. Lars war Fußballspieler. Beide waren sehr beschäftigt. Aber sie sagten: "Ja, Mama, wir kommen."
En: Sophia called her children. "Anna, Lars, we have a family gathering!" Anna was a doctor. Lars was a football player. Both were very busy. But they said, "Yes, Mom, we'll come."

De: Der 12. September kam. Das Wetter war schön. Die Sonne schien. Es war warm, aber nicht zu heiß. Sophia bereitete das Essen vor. Sie kochte ihre besten Gerichte.

En: With bags full of gifts and good spirits, Anna and Lars arrived. They were happy to see their mother and were excited for the day.

De: Sophia empfing sie mit offenen Armen. "Es ist so gut, euch zu sehen", sagte sie und ein fröhliches Lachen füllte das Haus.
En: Sophia welcomed them with open arms. "It's so good to see you," she said, and a cheerful laughter filled the house.

De: Dann klingelte es an der Tür. Es waren die anderen Familienmitglieder. Sie sahen alle glücklich aus und hatten Hunger. Sophia servierte das Essen. Es roch sehr, sehr gut.
En: Then the doorbell rang. It was the other family members. They all looked happy and were hungry. Sophia served the food. It smelled very, very good.

De: Aber dann, mitten im Essen, passierte etwas. Anna sagte: "Mama, ich muss nach Afrika. Es gibt dort viele kranke Menschen, die meine Hilfe brauchen." Alle staunten und waren still.
En: But then, in the middle of the meal, something happened. Anna said, "Mom, I have to go to Africa. There are many sick people there who need my help." Everyone was amazed and silent.

De: Sophia war sehr überrascht. Sie sah in Annas Augen. Sie sah, dass Anna meinte, was sie sagte.
En: Sophia was very surprised. She looked into Anna's eyes. She saw that Anna meant what she said.

De: Aber sie war auch traurig. Ihre Anna, so weit weg. Sie sagte: "Anna, ich bin stolz auf dich. Du bist eine gute Ärztin. Aber ich werde dich vermissen."
En: But she was also sad. Her Anna, so far away. She said, "Anna, I'm proud of you. You are a good doctor. But I will miss you."

De: Lars war auch still. Aber dann sagte er: "Und ich muss nach England. Mein Fußballteam braucht mich dort." Alle waren wieder sehr überrascht.
En: Lars was also silent. But then he said, "And I have to go to England. My football team needs me there." Everyone was surprised again.

De: Sophia war jetzt noch trauriger. Beide ihre Kinder, so weit weg. Sie sagte: "Lars, ich bin auch stolz auf dich. Du bist ein guter Fußballspieler. Aber ich werde auch dich vermissen."
En: Sophia was even sadder now. Both of her children, so far away. She said, "Lars, I am also proud of you. You are a good football player. But I will miss you too."

De: Die Familienmitglieder waren traurig. Aber sie sagten: "Anna, Lars, ihr seid gut. Ihr helft anderen. Das ist wichtig."
En: The family members were sad. But they said, "Anna, Lars, you are good. You are helping others. That's important."

De: Das Familientreffen endete. Es war ein trauriger Abschied. Aber Sophia war auch stolz. Ihre Kinder taten gute Dinge. Anna würde Menschen in Afrika helfen. Lars würde in England Fußball spielen. Sophia dachte: "Ich werde sie vermissen, aber ich bin froh."
En: The family gathering ended. It was a sad farewell. But Sophia was also proud. Her children were doing good things. Anna would help people in Africa. Lars would play football in England. Sophia thought, "I will miss them, but I am glad."
