Some things in life are worth the wait – even if that stretches out much longer than we would like.
Melbourne prog/alternative heavy outfit Circles certainly put that theory to the test, allowing four long years to lapse between the release of their acclaimed album The Last One and todays new single Sleepwalking.
It is a monster of a single, incorporating the musical precision for which Circles are known and loved but also hinting at a musical progression that proves the band have not let those four years go to waste.
With the band about to embark on a run of national dates as well, HEAVY caught up with drummer Dave Hunter to find out just what has been going on behind closed doors and why Circles chose Sleepwalker to break the drought.
"Oh geez, has it been four years,” Hunter smirked knowingly. “Surely two of those don't count right? (laughs) Obviously, we've been writing new material and that sort of thing, and it's going in all sorts of directions as we usually do. We never usually release the same record twice and these new songs are no exception. We felt that Sleepwalking encompasses a bit of the older nostalgic Circles sound as well as steering the listener into the direction we are headed with some of the new stuff. It was a bit of an all rounder, I guess."
