UK pop punk upstarts You Me At Six have nothing left to prove to anyone - much less themselves - when it comes to music. They have the runs on...
mostra másThey have the runs on the board and consistently break down musical barriers with their accessible brand of rock, emo and punk, striking nerves the world over with their anthemic songs matched by an equally rebellious spirit.
The band recently teased their fans with the announcement of their upcoming album Truth Decay, followed by lead single Deep Cuts.
That excitement turned into a frenzy earlier this week with the release of No Future (Yeah Right), which features guest vocals from Rou Reynolds from Enter Shikari.
You Me At Six frontman Josh Franceschi joined HEAVY to chat about the new single and upcoming album.
"I think it's an extension of Suckerpunch. It's probably the only song on the new album that's in the spirit of that where it's got dance elements in there, but with the whole mission statement to go retrospective we wanted to rediscover our original DNA if that makes sense. What is the DNA of the band? What are we? Who are we? Why do people like us? Why did people get into us in the first place? We wanted to grow on that and use that as the cornerstone of the record and I think No Future is probably the heaviest song on the record. Obviously it's got Rou from Enter Shikari as well and that gives it a bit extra juice. That's why it's the stand out song with the dance elements because we weren't gonna do that on this record and we had this song and said Rou you should jump on this and he really gave it an extra bit of something jazzy. It feels good. It feels like a song that is fuelled by anger and tension and you can hear that in the song. It's one of those songs where it's not necessarily a big single for us. We haven't made a pitch or anything like that for it. We wanted it to have its own moment because A it had our friend Rou on it and B because sometimes - especially right now - in our country there's a lot of tension, a lot of frustration. I'm not going to get into politics, but (laughs)... it feels like the perfect time to release it because people can scream in each others faces."
In the full interview, Josh talks more about finding the original DNA of You Me At Six, what that is, collaborating with Rou and what he brought to the song, the musical direction of Truth Decay, blending musical styles together successfully and more.
