I wasn't gonna tell this story, but I think I'm gonna tell it because it's really bugging me. It's eating at me. I'm gonna talk with the person too. I've told y'all that part of my mission statement is us being more together. I'm a Jesus follower. That means I'm not a Republican follower or a Democrat follower. That doesn't mean I don't have opinions about things. It just means that my opinions are so much less important than my ability to love God and his kids. I love myself, I love others, I love my heavenly father.

Somebody called me up the other day about something and she said, " I'm gonna do X (I'm not getting real specific) because I am sick of all the Democrats "and I'm thinking okay, how do you know what someone is? How can you call all those Democrats or all those Republicans? I love it when Andy Stanley says "If you're to the very far right, and you're to the very far left, it's hard to come up with solutions, and the further you are from the problem, the easier you think it is to solve it because it's not reality. "

So my hope, my prayer, is that within the sound of my voice, that we stop that rhetoric. That we stop labeling people with their party. I just think it is hurtful. I think it's damaging. I think it automatically because you don't know what I am. I don't know what you are. For me to proclaim that a whole group of people is somebody that I don't want anything to do with. That is sad to me. And as a Jesus follower, it is absolutely not acceptable.

If you're waving that banner, the reason you're doing this is because you're waving a banner, a religious banner, then that's hard for me to handle. I don't want us to live in a life where it's those people in us. I'm gonna say it again like my sweet husband said we are either all God's kids or none of us are God's kids. I would like to believe that we're all God's kids.

So after I share today's affirmation, and as you read it, I want you to think about what your independence day represents and for our country.
It meant we had freedom to live as a whole nation apart from mother England, and we wanted to be able to decide what we wanted to do for ourselves...was good for our families? What was good for all of us? That's what we wanted. That's where we started. I think we got a little far away from that at times. What are you free of today? What is something that you've been set free from? Think about how glorious that was to be set free, to not be in bondage any more? God and all of our servicemen have done so many things for us to set us free. So I want to be grateful for that today.
