God sovereignly chose Joseph to be the earthly father of His Son, Jesus Christ. He predicted in the Old Testament that the Messiah would come from the lineage of David. The prophets in the Old Testament described the awaited Messiah’s birth in detail. They foretold the Jesus would come from the line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Genesis 12:3; 17:19; Numbers 24:17), and the tribe of Judah (Genesis 49:10) ) to a virgin who would call Him Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14).
