German genrefluid outfit Lord Of The Lost have thought outside the square somewhat for their seventh studio album, exploring the origins and concepts of Christianity, specifically focusing on Judas Iscariot...
mostra másWith the release of Judas on July 2, Lord Of The Lost explore fresh and exciting territory for their double album opus, raising as many questions as answers in a stunning and powerful look at a part of history that has shaped the world as we know it.
Frontman Pi Stoffers joined us down the line in one of the bands first ever Australian interviews to discuss the album and it’s concept, with a number of technical issues unfortunately forcing a premature ending to proceedings, but not before we got to the nitty gritty of the album and concept behind it.
"We go way back, starting with a concept, or getting the idea for that concept when there has been that Lady Gaga song called Judas," he explained. "Our singer Chris is a diehard Lady Gaga fan, and it's not necessarily about the song, it's more about the word, which is a very, very strong word with a lot of meaning to it. We were doing the cover down the line when we were about to write the new album in 2020 - actually starting in 2019 - with the idea that we should focus on Judas as a concept. There is so much meaning behind that word and so many ways of looking, not only at the story of Judas which is told in the Bible, but there is so much more to it. We just started researching on that topic about are there any alternate interpretations of that Chhristian mythology thing or if it is it all true what would have happened if it didn't happen? What if Judas didn't betray Jesus? There wouldn't have been any crucifiction. There wouldn't have been the cross as probably the best selling merchandise product on Earth and also the symbol of the church. There wouldn't have been Christianity. So here are a lot of what ifs and there are a lot of ways of looking at Judas as being the worst of all evil and also there are ways of looking at him as being the actual saviour."
In the full interview Pi gives us more details on the concept of Judas and how the band came to exploring it, discusses the three songs released so far and how they impact on the narrative, having creative license with the subject matter and how far they took it, and more.
