Da: Nyhavn lå smukt i efterårets farver.
En: Nyhavn looked beautiful in the autumn colors.

Da: Bygningerne spejlede sig i kanalen.
En: The buildings reflected in the canal.

En: Leaves gently fell onto the cobblestones where people walked back and forth.

En: Mikkel walked along the canal with his hands in his pockets.

En: He had lived abroad for many years, but now he was back in Denmark.

En: He was excited to see Emma and Freja again.

Da: Alligevel følte han en knude i maven.
En: Yet, he felt a knot in his stomach.

Da: Ville de stadig være de samme?
En: Would they still be the same?

En: Emma was already sitting at one of the small café tables.

Da: Hun vinkede, da Mikkel nærmede sig.
En: She waved when Mikkel approached.

En: She was busy with her job as a journalist.

Da: Selvom hun elsker København, savner hun eventyret i hverdagen.
En: Although she loved Copenhagen, she missed a sense of adventure in her daily life.

Da: Freja stod ved bordet og kiggede ud over vandet.
En: Freja stood by the table, looking out over the water.

En: She had just returned from traveling around Europe.

En: Her head was filled with new thoughts and ideas.

En: But at home, she didn't feel completely settled yet.

En: shouted Freja and gave him a big hug.

Da: Emma rejste sig og smilede bredt.
En: Emma stood up and smiled broadly.

En: They sat down at the table as a breeze lifted the leaves around them.

Da: Samtalen flød let i starten.
En: The conversation flowed easily at first.

En: They laughed and shared small everyday stories.

Da: Men efterhånden blev Mikkel stille.
En: But gradually, Mikkel grew quiet.

Da: Han lyttede til sine venner.
En: He listened to his friends.

En: It dawned on him how much they had grown since he last saw them.

Da: Han samlede endelig mod til sig.
En: He finally gathered the courage.

Da: Han skulle åbne op.
En: He needed to open up.

Da: Hans hjerte bankede hurtigt, mens han begyndte at fortælle.
En: His heart raced as he began to speak.

En: "I've honestly been nervous about coming back," said Mikkel, looking down at the table.

Da: "Jeg frygter, at alt udenlands har ændret mig for meget."
En: "I fear that living abroad has changed me too much."

En: Freja and Emma paused and looked at him attentively.

En: Mikkel continued, telling them about the moments of loneliness he had experienced.

Da: Hvordan han ofte ønskede at dele sine oplevelser med dem.
En: How he often wished to share his experiences with them.

En: How he hoped they could still be close.

Da: Der var et øjebliks stilhed.
En: There was a moment of silence.

Da: Så tog Emma hans hånd.
En: Then Emma took his hand.

Da: "Mikkel, vi forstår.
En: "Mikkel, we understand.

En: We all have our struggles," she said gently.

En: "I also feel a bit disconnected after my travels.

En: It's hard to find my way back, but we'll find it together."

En: As words were exchanged, it felt as if a weight was lifted from Mikkel's shoulders.

En: He could see that they were also grappling with their own feelings.

Da: For første gang i lang tid tænkte han, at han måske passede ind igen.
En: For the first time in a long while, he thought he might fit in again.

En: The friendship was stronger than he had thought.

Da: Solen begyndte at gå ned over Nyhavn.
En: The sun began to set over Nyhavn.

Da: Mikkel så på Emma og Freja.
En: Mikkel looked at Emma and Freja.

Da: De smilede til hinanden.
En: They smiled at each other.

En: It was the beginning of a new phase in their friendship.

En: One where they could be open about their feelings—whether near or far.

En: As they stood up and walked on, Mikkel knew that no matter how much time passed, their friendship would always have a place in his life.

En: True friendship could withstand both time and change.

Da: Han følte sig endelig hjemme.
En: He finally felt at home.
