The best time of the year is just starting for most of us outdoorsmen and women as deer season kicks off across the state. We are joined this week by SCDNR's Assistant Big Game Coordinator, Jay Cantrell. We have enjoyed conversations with Jay over the last couple years and most recently we spoke about the trukey regulation changes. We are grateful to have him join us this week to talk deer. This is the first year of the new reporting program in which hunters are now required to report our harvests before midnight on the day the deer is harvested. We dive into this as well as many other concerns that the hunters across the state may have pertaining to deer hunting. We also share many more interesting facts about our deer population and the health of it going forward. We thank all the men and women of SCDNR and these bilogists and experts are very important to maintaining healthy herds of animals in our state. We are joined later in the show by Capt. Jason Burton. Jason is the owner of Murrells Inlet Fishing Charters and a host of Trilogy Outdoors Radio Show. Jason has been extrememly happy with the health of the flounder stock in our area waters and we discuss the reasons that he feels that our fisheries are sustaining despite the drastic increase in anglers that are targeting this very species.
