mostra másLike many bands, 2020 was a write off for Stepson, delaying the release of the album and putting an end to a planned European tour but that seems all a distant memory now with the band pumped to get their slab of music out to the judging ears of the public domain.
Bass player Jayden Ridley sat down with HEAVY to discuss the album and much more.
"Our vision when we went to create this album was we didn't want one of those debuts that has three singles and the rest is all fill where it all blends into one and every song sounds the same,” he offered of the album musically. “I think we really achieved that. Every song is different and we're very big on... we want our listening experience to be a bit of a rollercoaster so there's highs, there's lows and plenty of dynamics. There's something for everyone on there whether you like heavy riffs or breakdowns or catchy choruses or a random slap pop-based chorus, it's all there.”
All of which must make it difficult to neatly label Stepson’s music under one cohesive package.
"Yeah, I guess it comes under the guise of hardcore, punk, metal but we've never been one to pigeon hole ourselves to the one genre and I think that's cool. It keeps it fresh and makes it exciting.”
In the full interview, Jayden talks about Help Me Help You in greater detail including the title and album artwork, goals with the album, things to take into consideration for a debut album, missed opportunities and more.
