Fr: Une lumière pâle brisait la bruine du matin à Paris.
En: A pale light broke through the morning drizzle in Paris.

Fr: Étienne, un petit garçon de neuf ans, vivait dans une petite maison près de la Seine.
En: Etienne, a nine-year-old boy, lived in a small house near the Seine.

Fr: Ce matin, il avait une mission très importante.
En: This morning, he had a very important mission.

Fr: Sa mère lui avait donné deux euros pour aller chercher des croissants à la boulangerie.

Fr: "Voici ton 'crocodile', Étienne", a-t-elle dit en riant, "c'est exactement ce dont tu avais besoin, n'est-ce pas ?
En: "Here is your 'crocodile', Etienne," she said while laughing, "that's exactly what you needed, right?"

Fr: "Étienne a acquiescé vigoureusement, son visage rouge mais enjoué.
En: Etienne nodded vigorously, his face red but cheerful.

En: He paid the baker with his two euros.

Fr: Sur le chemin du retour, il sourit encore en pensant à sa gaffe.
