Story Transcript:

Sv: Johan var inte snickare.
En: Johan was not a carpenter.

Sv: Inte heller var hans hustru, Ingrid.
En: Neither was his wife, Ingrid.

Sv: Men deras äktenskapliga hem i en lägenhet belägen i Vasastan, Stockholm, fylldes alltid med ljudet av bultar och skruvar när de båda kämpade med möbler från IKEA.
En: But their marital home in an apartment located in Vasastan, Stockholm, was always filled with the sound of bolts and screws as they both struggled with furniture from IKEA.

Sv: Idag var det inte annorlunda.
En: Today was no different.

Sv: De hade precis kommit hem från ett besök på IKEA i Kungens Kurva med en Billy-bokhylla i ren björk, modellen med sex fack.
En: They had just come home from a visit to IKEA in Kungens Kurva with a Billy bookcase in pure birch, the model with six compartments.

Sv: Med stor entusiasm började de öppna kartongen och packa ut alla stycken.
En: With great enthusiasm, they began to open the box and unpack all the pieces.

Sv: Men det fanns ett problem.
En: But there was a problem.

Sv: Instruktionerna var borta.
En: The instructions were missing.

Sv: Så här stod de mitt i sin rymliga vardagsrum, omgivna av plankor, spikar, och skruvar, och hade ingen aning om hur de skulle gå vidare.
En: So here they stood in their spacious living room, surrounded by planks, nails, and screws, and had no idea how to proceed.

Sv: "Vi kan göra det själva, Johan," menade Ingrid, en energisk kvinna vars optimism sällan sviktade.
En: "We can do it ourselves, Johan," Ingrid said, an energetic woman whose optimism rarely wavered.

Sv: "Vi har monterat en Billy-hylla förut."
En: "We have assembled a Billy bookcase before."

Sv: Johan kastade uppgivet manualen för en annan möbel till högen med andra IKEA-manualer som aldrig mer tycktes användbara.
En: Johan dejectedly tossed the manual for another piece of furniture onto the pile of other IKEA manuals that never seemed useful again.

Sv: "Tja, det skadar väl inte att försöka," svarade han.
En: "Well, it can't hurt to try," he replied.

Sv: Och så började arbetet.
En: And so the work began.

Sv: De båda gjorde sitt bästa för att erinra sig hur de hade byggt den andra hyllan.
En: Both of them did their best to recall how they had built the other bookcase.

Sv: Plankor och skruvar flög genom luften när de snabbt försökte pussla ihop styckena.
En: Planks and screws flew through the air as they quickly tried to piece everything together.

Sv: Men när de steg tillbaka för att beundra sitt arbete, insåg de något förfärligt.
En: But when they stepped back to admire their work, they realized something terrible.

Sv: Hyllan såg allt annan än rakt ut.
En: The bookcase looked anything but straight.

Sv: Johan skrattade först.
En: Johan laughed at first.

Sv: "Det ser ut som något ur en surrealistisk konstutställning," skämtade han.
En: "It looks like something out of a surrealist art exhibition," he joked.

Sv: Men Ingrid blev förargad, hon ville ha det klart.
En: But Ingrid was annoyed, she wanted it done right.

Sv: Så, de rev isär hyllan och började om igen, den här gången med mer försiktighet.
En: So, they took the bookcase apart and started over, this time with more caution.

Sv: De provade varje skruv innan de borrade den i, och kontrollerade varje planka noga för att se till att den var på rätt plats.
En: They tested every screw before drilling it in, and carefully checked every plank to make sure it was in the right place.

Sv: Efter flera timmars arbete stod Billy-bokhylla äntligen stadigt framför dem.
En: After several hours of work, the Billy bookcase finally stood steadily in front of them.

Sv: Och även om den inte var perfekt, var den stabil nog att bära sina böcker utan att falla sönder.
En: And even though it wasn't perfect, it was stable enough to hold its books without falling apart.

Sv: "Ett väl uträttat jobb," sa Johan med ett leende.
En: "A job well done," Johan said with a smile.

Sv: "Ja, vi är ett bra team, Johan," svarade Ingrid.
En: "Yes, we make a good team, Johan," Ingrid replied.

Sv: De båda skålade med en varsin öl, nöjda med sitt gemensamma arbete.
En: They both raised a glass of beer, satisfied with their collaborative effort.

Sv: På det sättet övervann Johan och Ingrid hinder tillsammans, utan behov av instruktioner.
En: In this way, Johan and Ingrid overcame obstacles together, without the need for instructions.

Sv: De lärde sig att tro på sig själva och att lita på varandra mer än några tryckta ord på ett papper.
En: They learned to believe in themselves and to trust each other more than any printed words on a piece of paper.

Sv: Och även om deras Billy-bokhylla inte var perfekt, var det ett minne om en dag då de kunde skratta och arbeta tillsammans för att övervinna problem.
En: And even though their Billy bookcase wasn't perfect, it was a reminder of a day when they could laugh and work together to overcome problems.
