Back in the 19th century, there were a set of bizarre occurrences that still to this day have not been explained. A bizarrely dressed man was attacking people on the streets of England Vigilante groups were formed to apprehend the attacker, but he was too fast for them. They said he could leap over hedgerows and walls, in his flight to evade them.
Authorities believed the assailant had some kind of specially made boots with springs in the heels to give him such abilities. Some went as far as to try building such devices only to find they didn’t work. But the name stuck and everyone began to refer to him as Spring Heeled Jack.
The Mad Gasser of Mattoon. He’s also known as the Anesthetic Prowler, the Phantom Anesthetist, the Mad Gasser of Roanoke. That’s Roanoke, Virginia. He’s sometimes simply called the Mad Gasser. These are the names given to the person or people believed to be responsible for a series of apparent gas attacks that occurred in Botetourt County, Virginia, during the early 1930s, and in Mattoon, Illinois, during the mid-1940s.
