Breaking Violence is a podcast series aimed at creating awareness about violence especially those perpetrated against children, adolescents and young adults, in our societies and our roles in mitigating these occurrences. The podcast is focused predominantly on parenting across all ages but it is also very important for other stakeholders involved in providing service for children such as educators, government representatives and non-government representatives. Summarily, the podcast aims to expound on how we can individually and collectively work to reduce violence in our homes and communities by promoting more inclusiveness and keeping everyone, especially children, safe.

7 SEP. 2020 · Child discipline has always been misunderstood with most of its emphasis placed on corporal punishment or the use of other forms of aggression. On this episode, we'll look at the definition of
child discipline, the methods of disciplining children and what discipline isn't. While this episode does not deal exhaustively with the subject of child discipline, we hope you find our submissions helpful as you try support your children in developing good behaviour.
Discipline is all about making children adopt appropriate behaviour by teaching them how to, by being good role-models to them and also using punishment devoid of any form of aggression to set them right. Successful discipline outcomes in children is not only the responsibility of children but the bulk falls much more on us as parents and as such we all as parents, must get it right.

Spanking or hitting children seems to be the norm in many cultures and societies, for the effective discipline of children. However, experience and research work have proven otherwise. Frequently spanked children may find it difficult to fit into the society due to problems of low self esteem, display of aggression to others and the inability to be sensitive to the needs of others. We hit the streets to get people's opinions about this matter. We also considered 2 online articles to help expound on this topic. Using violence and traumatic actions to enforce good behaviours in children have negative effects on both children and their parents. Let us embrace the non-violent disciplinary methods in raising our children.

Drug Abuse and the Use of Addictive Substances
9 AGO. 2020 · Drug abuse and the use of addictive substances are global problems which seem to have proliferated despite the amount of campaigns against it. In my skype interview with Dr Malik, a medical practioner in Bauchi State, Nigeria, he explained the impact of addictive drugs on the human body, tips on how to break addiction and his work with drug addicts. Truly, combating the problems of drug abuse and addictive substances is not just for the few stakeholders alone but all of us must be on board to rid our homes and societies of all addictive drugs and substances. Together, we can.
BULLY-VICTIMS
8 AGO. 2020 · Parental bullying is usually exhibited by physical and psychological aggression by parents towards their children. In this episode, we explored research articles to learn more about this form of bullying in the homes and how it has impacted the proliferation of children known as "BULLY-VICTIMS" in our schools. These children unfortunately sometimes get bullied by their parents at home and thereafter bully other children in their schools. This episode also highlights the features of "BULLY-VICTIMS" and some of their challenges. The problems of bullying are terrible realities and nipping it in the bud sometimes entails tracing its history and resolving the matter starting there.

BULLYING
2 AGO. 2020 · Bullying is a societal menace and its presence in schools has always negatively impacted learners, whether as the bully, victim or an outsider. On this episode, we had Kenny, Tomiwa and Bolu, who as learners in primary and secondary schools shared their experiences, their school's anti-bullying work and their opinions on bullying. Many thanks to these amazing boys and their moms for their contributions to this episode.
We hope parents and school administrators, among others, find this episode helpful in combating all forms of bullying in schools and we also hope that our schools will prioritize anti-bullying policies and provide the necessary resources for it to be a success.
The role of Sex Education in mitigating Rape
26 JUL. 2020 · While rape offenders seem to be re-inventing themselves daily with varying methods and an array of victims in their paths, sex education has seldom been considered as a possible solution to curbing the crime of rape. Mrs Tope Abiara, a family counselor will be on the show again to help us explore sex education from the home and how it can help in mitigating the spate of rape and, also how parents can contribute to its effectiveness and success; as critical stakeholders in the society.

19 JUL. 2020 · Child abuse crimes are linked with many factors but one of the most predominant factors is that of parenting flaws. We will be exploring child abuse emanating from parenting flaws and how these negative experiences by children can influence their decisions to perpetrate rape crimes in adulthood. Mrs Tope Abiara, a family counsellor of over 16 years, will be joining us to shed light on this discussion especially on issues on emotional abuse, behavioural disorders and dysfunctional parenting styles.
