Jay Van Schelt, Integrating Mind, Body, and Healing Arts
10 JUN. 2024 · With over three decades of experience in teaching and holistic health, Jay Van Schelt stands at the forefront of integrating traditional martial arts and modern mind-body wellness practices. His journey began 34 years ago with teaching martial arts in Northern Connecticut, where he deeply understood the interconnectedness of mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
His collaboration with Dr. Zimmerman, particularly post his cancer challenge in 2004, has been pivotal in evolving the Harmonetiks method. Together, they've incorporated these principles into stress and pain management programs, greatly benefiting those suffering from chronic conditions.
A notable chapter in Jay’s career includes his work with Dr. Paul Lam on the Tai Chi for Arthritis program, which has significantly contributed to its national expansion in the US and has certified over 6,000 instructors.
Jay's diverse experience extends to his tenure in the corporate world, where working for The Music People an Exertis/Jam Company he applied his expertise in mind-body wellness to develop programs focused on creating effective, resilient and highly collaborative teams.
Now, dedicating his energies entirely to the Harmonetiks Project, Jay brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a deep passion for healing and teaching. Judge Mark E. Johnson, USA, Vet Court and Author Scars and Strife
20 MAY. 2024 · Judge Mark E. Johnson, Ret. Served as a Superior Court Judge in Riverside County. In addition to other duties, he served over the Riverside County Veterans Court.
Judge Johnson was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Superior Court Judge in May 2009 and was reelected to the position in June 2010. Since his appointment, Judge Johnson has been assigned to civil, probate, felony trial, and mental health and veterans courts. Judge Johnson also serves on the Riverside Superior Court’s criminal law advisory committee, the Riverside County Veterans Advisory Committee, the Board of Directors of Inland Empire Champions for Collaborative Courts, a charitable foundation supporting the collaborative courts of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, and the Board of Directors for U.S. Vets, March Air Force Base. Judge Johnson has also served as a consultant for Washington D.C.-based American University on issues relating to veterans’ courts.
Beginning in August 2011, Judge Johnson chaired a committee comprised of several Riverside County agencies and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to develop the first Riverside County Veterans Court. The Court was opened on 1 January 2012 and has been in operation since that date. The Court now presently supervises an average of 50 veterans on probation suffering from military-related trauma such as post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury who have served in combat in Vietnam, Grenada, Bosnia, Kosovo, Panama, Djibouti, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Judge Johnson is also a retired Colonel of the United States Army Reserve. During 28 years of active and reserve service, Judge Johnson served in various positions, including command judge advocate, company commander, battalion commander, and division chief of operations. His service included a deployment to Baghdad, Iraq from 2003-2004, where he served as the Chief of the Government Support Team, 1st Cavalry Division. For his service in this position and his role in the development of democracy in the Republic of Iraq, Judge Johnson was awarded the bronze star medal by General Peter Chiarelli in 2004 and personally honored by United States Senator Dianne Feinstein in a ceremony held in Riverside in 2005.
Judge Johnson has received numerous military awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, five awards of the Meritorious Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, and the Parachutist’s Badge, as well as numerous other awards and decorations. Judge Johnson retired from the United States Army on 1 October 2013.

13 MAY. 2024 · As an author of the book "Whisper From Within" and a devoted mother of three, my journey intertwines with a military background since 2011. Dedicated to serving veterans, I volunteer at the PTSD Foundation, collaborating with global organizations and healthcare professionals to disseminate vital information to veterans and their families. With a recent college degree in science and 14 years of pharmacy and compound experience, I bring a unique perspective to the table. Additionally, as a licensed personal trainer, I emphasize holistic wellness.
Let's discuss how to effectively communicate with veterans, particularly when addressing triggers.

Lt Col John J. McBrearty USA Author of 9 books
15 ABR. 2024 · Lt. Colonel John J. McBrearty USMC/USA, honorably served in our nation’s military for 32 years in positions of increasing responsibility. He has the distinction of serving in both the U.S. Marine Corps (enlisted & officer) and the U. S. Army (officer). His various fields of military training and expertise include Amphibious Assault Vehicles, Infantry, Armor, Cavalry Operations, Operational Planning, Strategic Planning, Public Affairs, and International Relations.
His career spanned the globe with operations in Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom-combat duty), Kuwait, Japan, Australia, Mexico, and Thailand. His years of dedication and sacrifice are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service.
Upon his retirement, John was recognized for excellence by President Barack Obama.
In 2016, John McBrearty retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
John J. McBrearty, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, is a magna cum laude graduate of the Valley Forge Military Academy and College, as well as Temple University. He also holds a master's degree in American history from the American Public University and served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at California State University, San Bernardino, and Claremont McKenna College. His unique multi-service career, increasingly significant military assignments, and combat action give him insight into the importance of American history and freedom.
John J. McBrearty is the author of the book series AMERICAN HISTORY, a Veteran’s Perspective. COMBAT ESSAY’S (Volume II in the series) became an Amazon Best Seller for Iraq War History. John’s COMBAT JOURNAL book series landed him on Amazon’s Best Sellers lists for Iraq War History, Iraq History, Biographies of the Iraq War, Military Policy, and others. John published his first in a series of “How To” books, CHILDREN’S GOLF (Volume 1), which debuted on Amazon as a #1 New Release and ranked in the top ten for Golf Coaching. John will be releasing two How to begin writing and get published books entitled, HOW TO GET PUBLISHED ON AMAZON in June 2024. John’s children’s book series includes CLAIRE THE MAGICAL DOG, which is also available on Amazon. Additionally, John contributed to the veteran-written anthology MESSAGES FROM THE BACKROOM (2023) and Written by Veterans ANTHOLOGY 5 (2024). With the recent releases of LEADERSHIP LESSONS, “From Operation Iraqi Freedom” and ARMY VALUES, John has nine books published to date.
John J. McBrearty's other works have been published or featured in Sports Illustrated, Stars and Stripes, Golf Week, Golf Digest, Callaway Magazine, Grizzly Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Orange County Register, Main Line Times, News of Delaware County, Daily Bulletin, San Bernardino Sun, Press-Enterprise, CBS News Los Angeles, and others.
Having joined the ranks of the "retired," John is active with several Veterans Affairs support groups. John, “Col Mack,” is a member of “Written by Veterans,” where he serves as a literary mentor for other veterans. “Coach John” is a golf instructor and enjoys a friendly game of golf from time to time.
John currently lives with his family in Southern California and keeps busy guest lecturing on topics surrounding his literary efforts at several colleges and universities.
Recently John was featured on segments of CBS Los Angeles’ “Veterans’ Voices” (American History books) and “Sports Central” (Children’s Golf books) which can be found by a simple online search.
John will be signing books at the Los Angeles Festival of Books at the USC campus, booth 124, 20-21 April 2024.
